How to increase the download speed in Adsl broadband connection or is there anyway to hack it? I use a adsl broadband 256kbps. I get a download speed of 16-18 kbps and that really sucks!! Is there anyway I can increase the download speed or is there any way to hack it?

Welcome to VistaHelp.ca

The speed you quote is absolutely pathetic, you must speak to your ISP about it as you don’t have much control over it. The speed is dependent upon factors like, your distance from the telephone exchange and the condition of your internal wiring. However, if you live in the UK, I can tell you how to rewire the connection that will increase the speed by up to a third.

Here are three ways to slightly speed up Internet Explorer browsing:
1. These two registry key changes will make web pages display slightly quicker as the number of simultaneous downloads is increased. Create a system restore point before making the changes.
Click the Windows Orb (Start), type regedit, press Enter and in the left pane navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings
Look for two keys in the right pane, MaxConnectionsPerServer and MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server. If they exist, then right-click on each in turn and Modify the value to decimal 10 (hexadecimal a).
If the strings don't exist in the right pane, they will need to be added manually. To add the two keys, right-click in the white space in the right pane, select New > DWORD Value, type the first name as the string name, press Enter and then repeat the procedure for the second one. Now modify the values to decimal 10 (hex a). Note: As the registry key is a CURRENT_USER one, the change needs to be done for each user of the computer.

2. Turn off 'RSS Feeds' by going to Internet Options > Content Tab > Feeds and Web Slices > Settings and uncheck Automatically check feeds for updates.

3. Run Internet Explorer with no add-ons, i.e. click the Windows Orb (Start) > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). If the issue doesn’t occur, it must be caused by an add-on, so go to IE > Tools > Manage add-ons and disable any unnecessary add-ons.

Your download speed is actually not that far off of what you should expect with a 256K connection. See here:

Like all things illegal, there are ways to hack into your modem to increase speed, but they do have possible repercussions, not the least of which being jail time, as you are technically "stealing" your ISP's bandwidth. Yes, they can track it.

We wont be dealing with those subjects on these forums.

Brittneya

My connection speed up has nothing to do with illegal hacking of modems. The internal house wiring is altered, which has nothing to do with your ISP.
